Another New Model
Whilst 2024 ND3 Mazda Mx-5 models share identical engines, power outputs and as far as we’re aware are identical mechanically (other than diff change) to the 2019-2024 ND2, the electronics have been changed radically!
This includes a completely new ECU / Powertrain Control Unit, different (yet again!) from all previous years. As of now (February 2024) there is no solution to read or write to the ECU by anything other than a Mazda factory tool.
What Does This Mean?
It is highly unlikely that with security put in place to prevent software reading and writing from/to the OEM ECU that there will be any aftermarket solution either bench (requiring ECU disassembly), or most certainly OBD (via CAN) for many years to come – no remapping!
But I Want To Modify, I Want A Conversion!
Being unable to remap the ECU our normal range of conversions is simply not possible. With the 2.0 model dropped from Europe and what appears to be a very limited shelf life for the ND3, even if we were able to remap the ECU, the software work required then for forced induction would unfortunately not be worthwhile.
A Modified Solution
Our current component range is fully compatible with the ND3 MX-5, but for those looking for more power (without large expense), it would be our advice to change vehicle to the slightly earlier ND2 model. We have a strong feeling that the ND2 will be the last of the enthusiasts MX-5's, and most probably the last model that we will be able to offer forced induction for maintaining the OEM ECU – EVER!
The good news is there's 35 years of MX-5's to choose from for BBR conversions (1989-2024), but there is always a way - if you do fancy a crazy build - ECU/Engine/transmission swap then please do contact us
