Mazda has a long history of churning out special editions of the MX-5, something that hasn’t changed with this fourth-generation car. The Sport Recaro variant is based on the 2.0-litre Sport Nav model, with additional equipment and more aggressive looks. Now it's had the special treatment with the BBR Stage One Turbo conversion, suspension and brake package it's not only the looks but the power, handling and stopping power to match!
In 2015 Mazda added a new limited-edition version of the MX-5 to its model line-up. Called the Sport Recaro, it sat at the top the current MX-5 range and mixes the technical setup of an MX-5 Sport Nav with a higher-specced interior and bespoke body trim.
Top of the list of additions is a sports aero-kit. This is comprised of a new rear spoiler, front and rear lips and side skirts – all painted in black. The door mirrors are also finished in piano black, and two-tone 17-inch diamond cut alloy wheels gain an engraved MX-5 logo.
Inside, the greatly sort after standard fit heated Recaro seats are clad in Alcantara, as are sections of the dashboard. Alloy pedals, bespoke floor mats and contrasting red stitching complete the Sport Recaro’s bespoke cabin.
The Sport Recaro, was limited to just 600 units model, available in just two exterior colours – Soul Red Metallic or Ceramic Metallic (as with this example). The Sport Recaro builds on the specs list of the Sport Nav on which it is based, and so comes with a long list of features: LED headlights, a leather steering wheel, climate-control, a DAB radio with Bluetooth connectivity, sat-nav, rain sensing wipers, keyless enty, a top-spec Bose sound-system, cruise control and Mazda’s MZD-Connect infotainment system are all included.
This stunning example was first delivered to BBR in 2017 where we carried out our Super 190 conversion, suspension package with Koni Sport dampers, OZ Ultraleggera/Goodyear F1 wheel/tyre package along with Eibach anti roll bars. Craving more power it was returned in 2018 for our Stage One Turbo conversion with electronic boost control, and then in 2019 for our 4 piston Wilwood brake caliper upgrade.
In short this is the ultimate MX-5 ND, meticulously maintained by BBR throughout with our Stage One clutch fitted as well as a full service in February this year. With just one previous owner our client purchased this from Solihull Mazda when it was one year old. The car has been used only in fair weather and garaged/kept on a battery conditioner when not in use.
In addition to work carried out here the car paintwork has been protected with GTechniq Crystal Serum ceramic with a C0 topper which has helped keep the Soul Red looking great and makes it a doddle to keep clean, the steering wheel professionally re-trimmed in Alcantara (to match the Recaro interior) by Royal Sterling Wheels, a stubby aerial, Delrin door bushes, and Zunsport half grille has also been added.
BBR work alone carried on this vehicle totals in-excess of £12000 inclusive of VAT, two owners from new with full Mazda/BBR service history.
